Flute

Flute is one of the most ancient musical instruments, the references of which has been found in puranas, Agamas and epics. It is this wind instrument that Lord Krishna is believed to play. Made up of bamboo, the pitch of this instrument is decided by the length and circumference of it. Longer the instrument, lower the pitch. One hole that is used to blow the air is called mukharandhra. This hole is comparatively bigger than other holes that are used to play. Balanced by the thumb, the flute is played using four fingers of the one hand and three fingers of the other hand. The movement of the lips and fingers produce the notes and gamakas.
