Ghatam
Ghatam is one of the most ancient percussion instruments of India. In Sanskrit, “Ghatam” means - a pot.
It is played with two hands, ten fingers, thumbs, palms, heels, knuckles, nails etc., to produce different sounds by pressing it’s mouth against the player’s stomach. The pitch varies according to its size with it’s mouth open.
Ghatam, comprises of the five elements of nature - Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space.
